4 year old Sophie Nugent, from Angmering, West Sussex, UK, suffers with cerebral palsy, leaving her unable to walk or stand on her own due to her brain giving incorrect signals to her feet leaving them permanently pointed and she is often struck down with painful spasms.
But all that could change with the help of a procedure to help her walk that is available only in the United States – although her family will need to find the £40,000 to pay for it.
So far they have raised half the money needed through family savings and the generosity of local people.
Sophie has been accepted by the hospital in Missouri, USA, and the operation is for July the 20th. Called Selective Dorsal rhizotomy, it is neurosurgical procedure that changes the signals from the brain to the muscles, meaning Sophie could walk unaided, stand on her own and, crucially, enjoy a pain-free life.
So let's help to raise the other £20,000 and help Sophie to walk, this is an operation that would change her life.
